Welcome to the 3S Blog!

Welcome to the 3S Blog!  This blog is to tell people what we do in our classroom in school.  Each week there will be two Weekly Bloggers from 3S giving you updated information about our classroom. The Weekly Blogger is part of our new class job chart.

This is the job chart.

This year we are studying Native Americans and how they lived a long time ago (500 years ago).  We’re reading books, going on field trips, and watching videos to learn about how they lived.  We’ve learned about how they burned down Tulip trees to make dugout canoes and also about the three sisters, which are corn, squash and beans.  The corn would grow straight out of the ground and the beans would wrap around the plant.  The squash would protect it from weeds.  We also learned that the men go hunting. The women take care of the babies and prepare food for their family.  When we went on our trip to Waterloo Village, we learned about the Medicine Man and how he bit his lips to get blood.  He took a bone and spit the blood through the bone and put fire all around the person.  They believed things like this scared away evil spirits.  If a person was sick, you could also see the herbalist.  The herbalist would use plants to cure headaches, stomach aches, and make soup or tea to cure people.

In Social Studies Workshop, we dried up corn and apples.  We started making clothes for our baby dolls that we will make later on in the year.  We dyed the baby clothes by smashing walnuts to get the dye.  We also made corn husk dolls.  Everything in social studies workshop is connected to stuff we study in the classroom.

See y'all next time!
