In third grade, students are gradually introduced to having personal access to an iPad. Initially they collaborate in pairs sharing iPads to explore safe and ethical uses of technology. After students sign the Student Technology Use Policy (STUP), they earn the use of their individual iPad.
As the year progresses, students spend time reflecting, recording, and annotating their ideas and thought processes. Students begin to build keyboard awareness using the onscreen keyboard and when ready, may choose to type their ideas in addition to recording their voice, creating videos, and taking photos. Some of the apps used in third grade are Educreations, Skitch, Mental Note, Google Drive, and various math games for skill building.
