Homework

A Few Words About Homework

Among the new things your child will be involved with in the third grade is homework.  We want to share with you some of the routines in this area.

Every child is provided with a homework folder for carrying assignments home and back to school.  Homework is given on Monday to be completed and returned on Thursday.

Homework assignments review work done in class.  Weekly assignments include, language, handwriting, math and sometimes social studies.

In addition, we suggest a minimum of twenty minutes of reading every day (we understand that this is not always possible).  We encourage a routine that would include the following: parents reading to their child, children reading to themselves; and if they enjoy doing so, children reading to their parents.  These are meant to be guidelines (no one should feel limited by them).  We would like to underscore the pleasure and value of continuing to share books with your children by reading aloud to them, even if they are able to sustain reading on their own.
